Big Kid Wear review

Big Kid Wear is a new online outlet by the same person who brought us Fetish Streetwear (that I have reviewed here). They largely sell printed t-shirts, but there are some sweaters, hoodies, bandanas and shoes.

Being from the same creator as Fetish Streetwear, Big Kid Wear is a similar kind of shopping experience with vaguely similar clothes. There are new designs on Big Kid Wear that do not appear on Fetish Streetwear, together with some that do.

Let us begin by having a look at some of the things Big Kid Wear sell. They mostly sell printed T-shirts so let us look at those (that I did not show in the Fetish Streetwear review) that I have recently acquired.

First up is the dinosaur T-shirt. Very nice, except for a possible dodgy font colour on the final letter that makes it hard to see, let alone read. Still, it is enough to inspire me to dinosaur antics!

The sleepy lion T-shirt is very cute. Just right for sleepy summer days or, if you do not need a onesie, you could wear it to bed!

It is Axel the axolotl. My long-time reader may recall me explaining that axolotls display a character in their evolution called neoteny, in which characters of the juvenile form are retailed in the adult creature. It undergoes incomplete metamorphosis, if you want the technical description. The blue colour of the shirt is very nice here.

Finally, a new, blue, dinosaur T-shirt. There are a few new dinosaur T-shirts like this soo make sure you choose your favourite when you buy. We shall have more pictures of me looning about in Big Kid Wear clothes shortly.

Do not worry, there are plenty of T-shirts available in plenty of colours, including pink. I am confident in my sexuality, but I am not going to wear pink T-shirts – I am a boy and boys at my playgroup do not wear pink!

The T-shirts are made from pre-shrunk cotton so, unless you are environmentally unfriendly and insist on too hot a wash they will not shrink further.

The printing on the T-shirts is direct-to-garment, so they can take pretty environmentally unfriendly washing, but do not tumble dry on a global-thermonuclear-war temperature. If I were you, I would line (or ‘over door’, in my case) dry your printed T-shirts. Full product care instructions are given on the Big Kid Wear site.

The sizing instructions for the T-shirts are very clear and, unless you have some problem equating numbers on a measuring-tape to numbers on a website, you would find it hard to choose the wrong size for your Big Kid Wear T-shirt

The sizing is equally easy for sweaters and hoodies and, whilst I did show this in my Fetish Streetwear review, here I am in my Axel the axolotl sweater (that has proved very useful during these unseasonably cold days we’ve been having of late).

Big Kid Wear bandanas are ‘one size fits all’ and, as my neck is completely enormous, this claim seems to be true.

I have heard bandanas described as ‘drool-catchers’ for those who really get a lot of enjoyment out of sucking their (Pacifier Addict’s Fixx) paci. You could also attach your pacifier clip to it if you are are otherwise naked.

Have a look at my Planes and Trains bandana.

I have to say that if there is an approved way to tie a bandana, I am buggered if I know it (and probably even more buggered if I could tie it), but I seem to have struggled boyfully to success!

I never thought a bandana was the kind of thing I would like, but I admit to being rather taken with the Big Kid Wear Planes and Trains bandana. I think I will get myself a couple more.

There are also pyjama trousers and skirts available from Big Kid Wear. They look very nice but are a little on the expensive side so I am yet to procure any. Not that I would buy a skirt, you understand? I am sure I would look very nice in a skirt and everything, but I am definitely a little boy and little boys do not wear skirts in my house (unless they are guests and want to wear their own).

The printed items are printed to order and take a few days to get printed and despatched. I have found that if I order on a Monday morning I usually get my T-shirts before the end of the week (this is ordering in the UK).

This printing to order system means that Big Kid Wear cannot stock anything too unusual, such as shortalls, dungarees, etc., as most clothes printing firms just do not stock that kind of thing. A shame, but not unexpected.

The only different item that Big Kid Wear stocks that is not normally held at local printing firms are their shoes. These have to be printed in China and sent to you in your home country.

This delivery from China takes surprisingly little time, a couple-or-so weeks, especially when you consider the token amount Big Kid Wear charge for postage. Even better, there do not seem to be any import duties to pay on the shoes, at least I have never been stung for any.

You will have seen the shoes that I obtained from Fetish Streetwear, but from Big Kid Wear I have got some shoes that are way cooler! Allow me to present, my dinosaur-printed shoes:

These are printed canvas mid-tops that are extremely comfortable, but perhaps best not worn in excessively rainy or cold conditions.

The printing Big Kid Wear arrange is very high quality. It is not simply a stick-on transfer that breaks the first time the shoes stretch, but it is… hmmm… erm… well, I am happy to use shoes without knowing how they work!

These shoes are keenly priced at Big Kid Wear, solidly made and very comfortable. And something as cool as dinosaur-printed shoes may well be the highlight of your little wardrobe. I will certainly be wearing mine every chance I get!

Overall, within the limits of what can be printed at local outlets (or with speed and efficiency in China), Big Kid Wear are an excellent source of cute printed clothes, from T-shirts, sweaters, trousers to shoes. They provide high quality clothes at reasonable prices, charge very little for delivery and get clothes out to you quickly.

Big Kid Wear are unreservedly recommended by Big-kid.com!
